I just hope JB learned his lesson. Anyone not locked down or that will not be extended , then move them.

Sounds to me like the management in Vancouver has a plan. Not offering Mathias a contract shows they have a direction they are going.

Who here was overly impressed with Mathias?

The playoff Mathias never showed up. You want players who can step it up in the playoffs. They gave him a chance by keeping him at the deadline after a season where he played decent not great just decent. He was too inconsistent.

JB should have moved him at the deadline but gave him a chance. He gave them all a chance now he is making the hard decisions.

I'm so confused by this seriously.. Learned his lesson?? 1st year president and GM in a playoff position against a lower ranked seed and they're supposed to start trading off assets?? Regardless of how it turned out you can't blame JB for sticking with what we had to see what we could do... He gave everybody a year including management to see what we had.. Easy to look back on it and say oh we should've dumped Mathias but if we had then the same vultures would be saying why would u dump a goal scorer right before the playoffs..

I'm not entirely sure of the lesson? If the Canucks were not going to the playoffs, I'm sure they would have made a couple of exit trades at the tdl.

What lesson does Benning need to learn from, Vantel?

Still can't quote anyone on the first page.

If they didn't make the playoffs, then I think you would have seen Benning dumping anyone and everyone for picks and prospects. I also think you'd have seen FA putting the pressure on to Linden and Benning to make a huge splash and gut the prospect pool for Hamilton/Lucic/etc at the draft.

. Thunda.

JB could have done worse at the tdl and picked up rentals.

Instead, kept a couple pending ufa's in Richardson and Matthias. I wanted to see at least one of them moved but I think Richardson was hurt around that time and Matthias had 3rd highest goals on the team...

As discussed earlier, upcoming season tdl, JB will have similar decisions to make, curious to see what will happen.

Yup This^^^^

It seems like all the other canadian teams are learning how manage their assets except vancouver.

Calgary got a 4th round pick for a RFA career AHL'er a couple of days ago.

Toronto is doing the 1 year and trade contracts to get picks.

Who wants to be a new GM come in and clean house without getting to know the players?

You lose respect from players and other organizations. Only an As$hat comes in and treats people like that.

I had new management come in and they gave everyone 6 to 8 months before they moved in different directions. Transitions need to be smooth. You need to give everyone a chance. JB did just that.

Good riddance Mathias. Leaf fans will be excited when he goes on a two week tear and rip him apart when he disappears for a month at a time. They are gonna be really pumped when they see him finish one out of every fifty hit attemps. Probably the softest 6'4 guy to ever play in the league.

I think the position we are in will dictate what will happen. If we are clearly in 2nd in our division (which is unlikely) he may do something. Any other scenarios we are sellers guaranteed.

I am happy with Briesbros, Benning has made it clear that he wants good character players. Those are the kind of guys that will work hard for each other and dont have attitude concerns. I read the other day that Demko paid his way to spend the week at camp, even though he cannot play, because he is committed to the franchise and wants to further grow his relationships with other young prospects. That kind of attitude in a player makes me feel really good about the quality of individuals this team is bringing in

I see him potentially getting a 2nd when Toronto trades him.

He did have 3 empty net goals last year, so to me he had 15 goals.

So basically Shanihan, who will have 11 draft picks next year , gotten rid of his GM and overpriced players being moved. They also picked up a first round pick this year .
